Quilt Show Over.....I Got An Award! Woo Hoo

Today I received a call from mom telling me she was at the quilt show and found a kit that had trains. She thought I might like to get it for Patrick. She also said it was $77. At that price, right now, I wasn't that interested. She asked if I was going to the quilt show. Told her "No, quit going to quilt shows." She then told me:

My Hawaiian quilt received a VIP ribbon - from one of our Senators. I was thrilled. Couldn't stop smiling!

We picked up the quilt at 5:30 pm today and was told I received a VIP award from Senator Braun (sp) and a People's Choice. The ribbons are Peoples Choice (SWWFair), VIP ribbon, and Peoples Choice from the Rainy Daze Quilt Guild show. I'm thrilled. I hardly ever get awards, mostly because I don't enter things.

This is my most exciting thing today. So, I'm going to leave this on a "perfect" note. Keeping things positive! lol

I will iron the ribbon later, to flatten it better. It was folded with the quilt. All's good! I'm enjoying being Happy Quilting!!

One Thing After Another.....

This morning was up early to get to my dental appointment. After an hour of getting my teeth cleaned, I came back to get my cell phone and go for a walk with Ruth. We took about an hour because we had to deliver notices to the water group.

After walking, got back in the car and headed to Walmart to pick up a few things we needed. Wanted to get there before it got too crowded. I rarely go, but when I do go, I make sure I get what I want and leave.

Arrived at the folks just before my physical therapy time. I chatted with dad. He looks great and is handling the situation very well. He will know in the next two days if he will be part of that 10% of people who get surgery. Mom had a couple things she wanted me to for her. I stayed after they both left - mom to take care of a client of hers, and dad to show the neighbors how to get to my sister-in-laws mothers place. I ordered what mom wanted ordered, then I played her game for a few minutes and went home.

Arrived home to work on Patrick's dessert of "Scotch-a-roo's." I have made them over the years. It's one of the family favorites. Just as I was getting the chocolate melted, the power when out. Called the power company and was told there was a car accident and the car hit a poll.

I tried to work on block #15 of "Bountiful Baskets" and was able to get a few more stitches in. Not that crazy about this block, but still working on it. Seemed to be on the phone more than anything.

Last night we picked up the quilts. I saw Donna had a ribbon like this one, and thought that was awesome she won a prized ribbon. Then when I picked up my quilt, I had the same ribbon on my quilt! I was shocked! It's a people choice ribbon. Like Patrick said, that is better than any ribbon I have ever gotten. It tells me others like my quilt! I read what was said about my quilt, and I agree with the markings that were given. I had "excellent" on all but one thing. The one was "good" because of two things. My batting doubled up and there was puckering. If one reads my Hawaiian Quilt pages, they would see I knew that and was working on trying to fix the problem. I had forgotten about that, till it was brought up. I agree with everything the judge said, and am happy to say, this judge judged on my work and not on her personal ideas. It felt good to get another ribbon as well as a blue.

Today was busy, and not a day I would like to repeat. The power went off around 3:30 pm and came back on about 5:30 pm. Guess we were lucky it was that short. Art called to make sure I was ready for tomorrow. We are going to the casino and he wanted to make sure I wasn't changing the date. It's a pain, because every day this week has one thing or another.

I still have more work to do on the solid stash of table mats. I need to get the binding on those. Will try and work on those Wednesday, if all goes well.

Quilt Meeting Day....

This morning I walked a little early today. When I got back home my Uncle and Aunt were heading out to sit on the deck. I surprised them. haha They thought we were still in bed. I wasn't, but Patrick was. haha

We went out to breakfast with them. It was funny, because I told Patrick I had a meeting about 2 blocks away. He didn't want to take 3 cars, (Uncles, his, and mine). So he drove us (him and I) to the restaurant. Uncle took his car because they were leaving shortly after breakfast. After breakfast, Patrick drove me back home, where he got in his truck and I got in my car to leave. He went to work (half way between restaurant and home). I got to the store and figured out I forgot my threads. But I at least had some thread on my needles that were on the blocks.

I was able to do the stem on my Baltimore Liberty block.

I also got to finish two more leaves. I have two more leaves to finish in this area and then I can work on the other three.

Once these three are done, then the block will be done. I work on it when I get the chance. Will probably finish it up tonight. I still have the embroidery to do on the other eagle block.

Mom called after she was done with judging and said I received a blue ribbon. I asked, "Is that all?" She came back at me with, "What did you expect?!" I then asked about Donna's quilts and she said she didn't know which ones were hers. I told her, and she said she didn't judge those. I then asked who won the "big" prize and found out David Christensen won the big price and the one under that was a beautifully done embroidery quilt. Both quilts were machine quilted.  I was a little disappointed that a hand quilted quilt didn't make it. My pride was hit, but that's okay, I'm okay with it. I would like to know what the judge had to say about my quilt - not. Patrick told me I do and that I need to see what was said to make me a "little better." I understand his way of thinking, but at the same time, I'm uneasy about all this process. I don't like being judged. It makes me "belittle" myself.

Good news! The QOV quilt will be delivered next week to my husband's Uncle. His sister in law is excited about it and thrilled I was able to pull that off. She promised to send me a photo of the presentation. I can't wait and I hope he makes it till after he gets the quilt.

Tomorrow is lunch with Jeannie Austin, Mary Ann Wilson, and my mother. Should be interesting. I'm excited about going. I will take her two blocks that I'm working on. I have to return her block as well. This will be exciting.....depending on......

I will try and work on the QOV quilt this weekend. I'm going to make a couple changes, and then I'm going to add the other borders. I'll request a quilter and then we have a quilt here for our QOV group.

Things have been busy this week and I've been keeping up with what I can. Still Happy Quilting!

Brazilian Embroidery Meeting

Today started out with a walk, then off to our meeting. Pat Campbell is our "teacher" and coordinator of our meetings. We had a good turn out.

I finished the piece we made in the group. Three or four of us are done. Mom is in the beginning stages of this. Since my plastic holders are in, I can now work on the next piece. Told Patrick I'll wash it up and he can frame it. Then we can give it as a gift or hang it on the wall.

I was lazy the rest of the day, except for laundry. I cut out some 2 1/2" strips for the 9 patches I'm going to do for another quilt. I want to use up the solids I have. I figure I'll do the light and dark colors together. Those are the colors so far for the patches. I will cut more out this week. Tomorrow is quilting with St. Helen's group and then off to see Donna around lunch time. Should be fun. I'm looking forward to it.

it was time to pick blueberries. They are showing up fast. Usually we don't pick them till about July/Aug. But this year they are early. Really good too.I gave some blueberries from last year to Phil to use up. It's amazing how much blueberries I have left over from last year.

I noticed the squash is starting to come out too, while I was berry picking.

I also picked a few strawberries. We had a dessert with blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries. It was really good. Healthy too.

The eggplant is growing pretty good as well. Patrick's garden is doing great! I can't wait to start seeing tomatoes!

I'm about half way done, if not more on this block. I have the ship base and water left to do. Then I can move to the next block. It's going fast when I work on it.

I wanted to add a link to the gal I got my fabric from in England. If your looking for fabrics you can't find, that's the one to get the fabric from.  Marilyn's Patchwork has some really pretty fabric. Cheaper than usual, but the shipping is what gets it up to what we pay. I love what she's got, and she's fast with shipping. Fabric's from England. I noticed she has the Dr. Suess fabric as well. I may have to get that!!

I was reading Karen's blog about her going to the National Quilt Assoc,. quilt show. I wasn't surprised she was disappointed with very little to nothing for hand quilters. I found a lot of quilt shows that don't offer hand quilting supplies. I am like her, it's offending to us hand quilters when machine quilting has taken over the quilt world. Both quilts are beautiful and both quilts need to be recognized. Hand quilting is NOT a dieing art. Most hand quilters a humble and aren't as showy as most. I wait to see what other quilters say about a show before I decide to go or not. I want to see hand work, not machine work.

We are keeping busy, and I'm still find things to finish, and (ouch) start. I'm enjoying my crafts. Happy Quilting.

Another Quilting Day!

Today was a quick day. Seemed like the day went so fast. Our morning started out with me walking with Ruth. Before I headed out to meet up with her, (yes she was ahead of me) Patrick and I got the crock-pot going with beans. I started it, then ran out to meet Ruth, while Patrick put the spices in the pot.

After walking I went next door to play cribbage. I was skunked today....not the best way to start the day. Headed home and showered.

When I was done and ready to go, I arrived at moms by 9:30 am and there were 2 other quilters there already. Looks like they are starting to potluck it again, and I'm going to start leaving early if it keeps up. Not wanting to deal with the temptations.

While at moms, I worked on the leaves that I basted onto the block yesterday. I also worked on the basket itself. I have to applique down the wicker basket as well. I'm about half way with that part. I will finish the basket here pretty soon. It looks cockeyed but then by the time I put the flowers and leaves on, it won't look that bad. I'm hoping at least. I will say I'm NOT going to do another basket that has this much trouble to it. lol

This is going to be the last photo of the Hawaiian before it's finished. I will wash it and get it ready for a photo. It may take a few tries to get it right, but this is the last corner that needs to be done.

It's funny how I think of things to say on here while I'm working on each of my projects, and then when it comes to putting it down on paper, I forget what it was I wanted to say.

Once this is done, I will get back to working on my different applique projects. I need to get the border done on the Affairs of the Heart quilt top. I need to finish that up her pretty soon. Or it will be another one of those projects that takes 10 years. As if I don't have enough of those already! lol

I've been enjoying getting back into quilting and projects. It's a lot of fun, and I'm surprised at what I've been able to get done. I'm going to set up a page on here for other quilt blogs that would be fun to check out. If you would like me to include yours, send me an email. I'm looking for blogs that show what your doing, and a little about it. I don't want blogs that are "teaching" or "selling" as I don't like going to those blogs, and I'm sure you wouldn't want to either. May we all be Happy Quilting!

Green Bay's Sunday!.....and no Quilting..... Ugh

I spent the morning at the bowling alley. Our travel league meets once a month and I had to go bowling. Next month will be in OR and so I'm going to be gone most of the day for that. We start bowling at 11 am.

Got home to Charlie waiting on me, and Patrick napping. lol Asked about the game with Green Bay, and to my surprise he said he was flipping channels. He usually doesn't miss a GB game, since he sold hot dogs at the stadium when he was a kid. Now it's GB and Seahawk's game on Sunday next week. Either team wins and this family will be happy - SEAHAWKS are #1 in this family though!

Remember me posting this?! I finished this area and now working toward the middle area. I'm thrilled to have finished this area last night. I did find myself taking some of my work out, but overall it worked out great. I'm getting there. 

I'm hoping to be able to work on my stuff downstairs tomorrow, but with walking, cribbage, and doctors appointment, I don't know if I will be able to get much done. I'm hoping to start some of the stuff I have down there and get my organization on track. I need to get more things ready for the days I'm away from the house and want to take my bag of "stuff."

Walked into the house from bowling, and went - "ugh" - guess I need to do some picking up around the house. I have so much "stuff" all over the kitchen, dinning room, and living room! I couldn't believe how much I have sitting out. Guess I need to get back to cleaning before I sit down and quilt. OR even before I play games - yea, right, not sure that will work. lol

I was checking out Karen's Quilting blog and noticed she's giving away 9 different patterns she has no more use for. I think that's an awesome idea. Have everyone see the patterns, decide what they want and then have a drawing to see who gets them. I sent a message to her, that I should do that too! I have more patterns then I have quilts! lol But then again, have more patterns of cross stitch, crochet, etc., that I haven't touched in YEARS.....guess I need to get my butt downstairs and get moving on organizing what works for me!!

Today, I'm dreaming of getting back to quilting and dying to be Happy Quilting!!
